This position is responsible for maintenance, repair, calibration and support of both basic and moderately sophisticated medical equipment, and the users of that equipment, throughout the organization. Biomedical Engineering Technician
Kaiser Permanente is looking for an Biomedical Engineering Technician (position title is Biomedical Engineer) for Berkeley who is  responsible for providing the broad scope of service needed to maintain the general clinical instrumentation used in the delivery of healthcare in both hospital and medical office buildings (MOB).

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSE: Associates degree or equivalent in electronics, physics or related science. Minimum of 4 yrs experience in clinical equipment service in a hospital setting. Unrestricted California Class C or better driver’s license.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must have formal and on-the-job training for service/support of medical instrumentation. Minimum of 4 years experience in hospital service of medical instrumentation, RT/AN, and clinical laboratory equipment. Must have excellent communication and customer relation skills and be willing to work extended hours. Must have good driving record and maintain valid unrestricted California class C or better driver’s license. Must be able to lift 75-lbs. chest high. Must possess good verbal and average reading & writing skills. Must be proficient operating PC’s with Windows operating systems. DUTIES:   In NCAL KP medical facilities as needed, working under the supervision of the Clinical Technology Area Service Manager or designee, performing all phases of routine and corrective service of biomedical equipment. Perform pre-issue and asset accounting, equipment installation and de-installation of related equipment as needed. Must work collaboratively with OEM representatives, other biomedical engineer specialties to include but not limited to imaging (x-ray, CT, MR, U/S, N/M), Systems Integration (computers), instrumentation, laboratory, processor, laser, and KP-IT to complete the work. Job summary:
Install, maintain (calibrate) and repair stress test systems, ultrasound (imaging) systems. defibrillators, EKG’s, holter, automatic blood pressure and patient monitors. The ideal candidate must be able to use tools to repair medical equipment, have strong verbal and written communications skills and a working knowledge of computer software programs including word, excel and outlook.

The ideal candidate must also be able to do the following:
• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance or regular periodic calibration to ensure that instruments and systems perform within their design specifications. • Respond to calls from customers in emergency situations and perform repairs on site. • The ideal candidate must be willing to travel to customer sites on occasion some sites are out of state. • Responsible for validating and refurbishing systems prior to delivery to customers. • Maintain all equipment with particular emphasis on safety concerns necessary to avoid injury to patients or hospital staff. • Provide technical suppport and trouble shooting over the phone. • Maintain necessary electronic service records for in-house and customer use. • Provide training and education to medical staffs on safety, proper use and care of equipment and supplies • Have strong organizational skills and able to work with minimal supervision • Candidate must be a self starter with a great work ethic and attitude • Must be customer focused (i.e. good customer service skills) • The candidate should be able to make recommendations on equipment upgrades and/or cardiac equipment solutions when equipment fails or when equipment is ready for replacement Tree (3) years hospital biomedical repair experience with good trouble shooting skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Duties may require limited travel and temporary work at other locations within the service area.

Experience/Education: Two (2) years of experience in the repairing and maintaining of medical machine equipment OR Successful certificate of completion of an accredited Bio-Medical Equipment Technician, Electronic Technology or Electrical Engineering program OR Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET). All candidates must have a proven proficiency to perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment following current standards, code and procedures and ensuring safe and effective operation of medical equipment. **Candidates with sales skills/sales background are highly preferred.
