Professional of the Year
The California Medical Instrumentation Association in conjunction with Welch Allyn Inc. has created the Professional of the Year Award. This award will be presented at CMIA’s L.A. Chapter Annual Meeting in January to an individual who has given personally and professionally to the field of Biomedical / Clinical Engineering as well as to their local community. This award is sponsored by Welch Allyn Inc. The winner will receive an award for $1,000.00 and a plaque identifying them as the CMIA Professional of the Year. We are looking for individuals who have made significant contributions in Professional Achievement, the Local Community and the Biomedical Community. This recognition is given to the CMIA member that meets the criteria listed below. The CMIA gratefully recognizes Welch Allyn Inc. for their outstanding generosity in support of this award. Purpose: To recognize outstanding professional achievement, contribution to the community, and contribution to the biomedical community. Eligibility: Any CMIA (Individual) member in good standing. Current CMIA Board Members are not eligible. Award: CMIA Professional of the Year plaque plus a $1,000.00 award, recognition at the CMIA’s L.A. Chapter Annual Meeting, recognition in the CMIA Newsletters and website, a letter to the CEO of the winner's organization, recognition in various professional publications, and automatic nomination for the appropriate AAMI award(s). Judging: CMIA Executive Board members and the previous year's winner, will score the individual submissions of each element on a scale of 1 (low) - 5 (high) and sum the scores. Highest score wins. In the event of a tie, the Chairperson of CMIA will cast a tie-breaking vote. A minimum score is necessary for the award to be presented. Presentation: The Chairperson of the CMIA will present the award during the CMIA’s L.A. Chapter Annual Meeting. The winner will be introduced, brought to the stage, their accomplishments will be read aloud to the membership, and pictures taken. Copies of the pictures will be presented to the winner, and included in the next month's newsletters, and on the CMIA.ORG website. Criteria: Applicants will be judged on their contributions in each of the following areas:

Professional achievement activities are those performed in the course of day-to-day duty to their employer. Examples of professional achievement are:
Community contribution activities include any activities which provide a significant social, moral, economic, or educational benefit to the local community of the nominee. Examples of community contribution are:
Biomedical community contributions are those activities which enhance the professional biomedical community. Examples of contributions are:
