 Program - Endoscope Troubleshooting
Issues and PM
Terry D Kern, Endoscopy Depot
Manager, Services, GE Healthcare
Terry's organization repairs over 200 endoscopes per month
for GE Healthcare maintenance service organizations and medical institutions.
He provided an insight into the complexity of scopes (e.g., many channels,
mechanisms, and optics) and tasks which may be accomplished
by Biomeds in their facilities through many pictures of actual units under
repair and some that were beyond. More extensive repairs he suggested
should be left to organizations (manufacturers or independents) dedicated to
repairs with an inventory of proper (and expensive) tools. Most repairs are
due to mishandling, coiling too tightly, and abuse during sterilization. Thus
training all personnel that come in contact with the devices will lead to their
longevity
and reduced
repair costs. Coincidently last month's 24x7 contained an article about endoscope
repair. Click

Imaging, formats, image types and use of phantoms. This was followed by a
hands on demonstration of.the presentation with a large system and several
phantoms. The excellence of the presentation was shown by virtually everyone
staying

brands. Guests from Fluke Medical and Aramark provided colorful
insight into the background and choice of standards.

Program -Principals
of Anesthesia & Basic Troubleshooting
Curt Byerly (Datex-Ohmeda (GE) regional trainer) a presented
the history and general information on anesthesia and
anesthesia machines. Rick Rambo (President CMIA)
demonstrated basic troubleshooting techniques on a system
courtesy of Datex-Ohmeda (GE). This 3-hour session was
designed to give general knowledge to those not conversant with the
technology
and systems. It
will disprove the belief, by some, that anesthesia is black
magic or rocket science but
not replace the week long classes provided by manufacturers
for maintaining their systems. This class is also designed
to serve as continuing education
for Biomeds. Your management may permit attendance on company
time, pay for the class and count this towards your continuing
education requirements. A certificate of attendance was
awarded.
